History
The dance side was formed in 1989 and is based in North Dorset, England. Since starting we have grown in size and now number around 35 dancers split into 3 groups. During the winter the children concentrate on learning new dances and are also taught about the roots of our folk traditions e.g. traditional songs, nursery rhymes and festivals.
Throughout the last 20 years we have performed at most of the local fetes, fairs and shows. We also competed in a national dance competition (all the other entries were modern dance mainly from colleges)  where we received very favourable comments. We performed at the re-consecration ceremony for Shaftesbury Abbey. Undertook  a tour of Ireland and performed during the Kilkenny festival. Danced in the junior section of Sidmouth International Folk Festival. Regularly taken part in Gold Hill Fair and danced during the opening. Performed at Sidmouth, Swanage and Wimborne Folk Festivals. We were filmed by the BBC for a Meet the Ancestors special taking part in a horn dance to represent a dance believed to date back to the Stone Age. In 2005 we attend the Europeade (an European folk festival) in Quimper France where we represented England and Dorset.
In 2006 we attended the Europeade in Zamora, Spain and in 2008 in Martigny, Switzerland. Unfortunately we were the only English team to attend for these two years, with no English teams in 2007. We hope to attend at Bolzano Italy in 2010, but are finding fundraising increasingly hard. If you can help or know any who can please get in touch.
The Advanced class are looking to take their talents further afield, and welcome invites to future events.
